Answers to common questions.
Straight answers about how we work, what to expect, and what to do right now.
General
How fast can you get to my property?
We dispatch crews in under 60 minutes, and our live dispatch line is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including nights, weekends, and holidays. One call connects you to a real person.
What should I do while I wait for the crew?
If it is safe to do so, stop the source of the damage, for example by shutting off the main water valve. Stay out of any area where water is near electrical outlets or where the ceiling is sagging, and move valuables to a dry spot. If there is a fire or any risk to your safety, call 911 first, then call us.
What types of damage do you handle?
Water damage from burst pipes, appliance failures, storms, and flooding; fire and smoke damage; and mold remediation. If you are not sure which one you are dealing with, call us and we will help you work it out.
Do you work with my insurance company?
Yes. We work closely with you and your insurance company to get your property back, documenting every step so your claim can move quickly. Coverage decisions are always made by your insurer, and we will explain what we are seeing along the way.
Are your technicians certified?
Yes. MEZ Restoration is IICRC certified, and our technicians are trained to industry standards for water, fire, and mold work.
How much will it cost?
Every job is different, so the cost depends on what happened and how far the damage has spread. Before work begins, we explain your options in plain language and set honest expectations, so there are no surprises.
How long will the restoration take?
It depends on the type and extent of the damage. After our assessment, we will give you a clear timeline and keep you updated as the work progresses.
How do I request help?
Call or text 1-800-578-0039, email info@mezrestoration.com, or send a callback request from our contact page. For emergencies, calling is always fastest.
Water damage mitigation
How long does it take for a structure to dry out?
Most homes take 3 to 5 days to fully dry. Severe flooding, dense materials like plaster or hardwood, and high humidity can stretch that out. We check daily with moisture meters and thermal imaging, so we know an area is truly dry, not just dry to the touch.
Can my carpets and hardwood floors be saved?
It depends on the water and how long it sat. Carpet from a clean-water event can often be cleaned, disinfected, and dried, though the padding underneath usually needs to be replaced; carpet exposed to sewage, or with the backing coming apart, has to be replaced. Hardwood floors can often be saved if we start drying within the first 24 to 48 hours, using equipment that pulls moisture out of the wood before it warps.
Can I turn off the noisy air movers and dehumidifiers at night?
Please leave them running around the clock. They work together to keep pulling moisture out of the air and the materials in your home. Turning them off, even overnight, slows the drying down and raises the risk of mold and further damage.
Fire & smoke restoration
Why shouldn't I try to clean soot and smoke residue myself?
Soot is acidic, and different fires leave behind different kinds of residue. Household cleaners, or simply wiping it away dry, tend to push soot deeper into paint, wood, and drywall, which sets the stains and the odor in rather than removing them.
How is the smoke smell permanently removed?
We neutralize the odor instead of masking it, using a combination of methods depending on the damage: thermal fogging pairs heat with a deodorizer that reaches the same tiny pores the smoke got into, hydroxyl generators and ozone machines break odor down at the source, and HEPA air scrubbers filter lingering smoke particles out of the air.
What happens to contents and personal belongings?
We catalog your belongings and sort what's worth restoring from what needs to be replaced, based on the damage and the item's value. Anything worth saving goes to an off-site facility for specialized cleaning, such as ultrasonic cleaning, textile laundering, or ozone treatment, before it's returned to you.
Mold remediation
How quickly can mold start after water damage?
Mold can begin to grow within 24 to 48 hours of a water event if the area stays wet. That's why calling right away matters, even if the damage looks minor.
Can a company guarantee 100% mold removal?
No, and it's worth being cautious of any company that promises that. Mold spores exist naturally indoors and outdoors at low levels everywhere. Our goal is to bring your home back to a normal, healthy level, not to claim we've removed every spore.
Can I stay in my home during mold remediation?
Often, yes, if the affected area is limited and we can seal it off properly. We'll recommend staying elsewhere temporarily if the mold has spread through your HVAC system, if a large amount of building material needs to come out, or if someone in the home has a respiratory condition.
Can I just clean the mold with bleach?
We don't recommend it. Bleach is mostly water, so on surfaces like drywall or wood, the bleach evaporates quickly and the water soaks in, which can feed the mold instead of killing it. Real remediation means removing the moisture source, sealing off the area, physically removing the mold, and treating the surface with the right antimicrobial products.
